Afrikadey! and Marda Gras this Weekend

Rain or shine you'll be able to find us at Afrikadey! on Princess Island Park on Saturday, August 8th and then again at the Marda Gras Street Festival in Marda Loop on Sunday August 9th.

Visit our booth and take a look at all the items we don't have on the website like personalized name plates, carved Tingatinga wooden pencils, Tingatinga painted fish, hand painted greeting cards and much more.  Unfortunately there are no Tingatinga umbrellas.  :)

Africa on Canvas at Sun & Salsa

We are gearing up for our second appearance at the Sun & Salsa Festival taking place in Kensington this Sunday between 11:00 and 5:00.  Our booth, B14 will be located on 10th Street and 2nd Avenue, just outside of Ridley's Cycle and Arthouse.  The Sun & Salsa Festival not only presents a sensational opportunity to sample sizzling salsa, but it's also Calgary's largest charity festival.  This year all the proceeds from the sale of chips and water at the event will go to help support the LEAD Foundation and the

Gallery Calorie and Art Race 2009

I'm excited to announce that Africa on Canvas will be taking part in the Artemis Charitable Foundation's 2009 Gallery Calorie and Art Race this Saturday on 17th Avenue SW.

New Artwork Added

Calgary's 4th Street Lilac Festival last weekend turned out to be our most successful event to date!  The weather held out for us this year and the day was a huge success.  Thank you to everyone that stopped by the booth and asked us questions about the project and of course we want to congratulate Calgary's most recent Tanzanian art collectors on their purchases.

Upcoming Events

On Friday, May 22, 2009 Africa on Canvas will again be working in partnership with Memeza Africa.  Our art display will be set up for the evening concert being held at the Cochrane Alliance Church at 902 Glenbow Drive Cochrane.  The performance starts at 7:30pm and the art display will be open before and after the show as well as during the intermission.

Art Show Update

Africa on Canvas will be on site at both Memeza Africa concerts this weekend.  If you haven't had the chance to see our unique selection of African paintings in person come out and enjoy an evening filled with African arts and music.

New Artwork Posted

A number of new African paintings have been added to the "In Stock" and "Sold" sections of the website this weekend.  Many of these paintings have been in stock since Christmas, but they went on display at the Matchbox Theatre in Red Deer before I could take photos, so they are just making onto the website now.

Memeza Africa is Back!

Hot Off The Press

Africa on Canvas made it in the headlines today!  If you want to check out the article follow this link to the Calgary Art Blog and check it out.  I also want to send a big thank you to everyone at the blog for their support.

I have to say that I am excited by the positive response I've received on the project early this year and I am looking forward to an even more successful 2009!  Our first outdoor festival will be the 4th Street Lilac Festival on May 31, 2009.

Happy New Year!

And welcome to 2009! Normally this time of year would be dedicated to new years resolutions and fresh starts, but this year my focus is on something old, one year old in fact. Yup - Africa on Canvas turned 1!

From the first shipment of 5 paintings that we opened on the patio at the Lazy Loaf last fall, to over 200 paintings imported to date. How cool! Sometimes I'm still in awe that the project has made it so far in such a short period of time.
