In the News

It's been less than a year since Africa on Canvas joined forces with the Uganda Partnership (UP) and in April I had the opportunity to make my first visit to the project.  For three weeks I lived with a group of volunteers in a remote village in SW Uganda meeting with widows groups and working with them on a variety of different income generating projects.

Many of the widows weave or sew to supplement their income, selling their finished products to UP.  Africa on Canvas is also involved in this project and has purchased a number of beautiful natural fibre baskets, bowls and coasters, as well as, shoulder bags and change purses made from boldly colored African fabrics.  Africa on Canvas will be introducing many of the widows crafts during the summer festival season.

My brief stay in Kampala was a huge success too!  While I was visiting the local marketplace I met a number of artists interested in becoming involved with Africa on Canvas.  Godwin and Kantongole's bios have been added to the artists section of the website and a number of new African paintings from Uganda have also been added to the "In Stock" page.

The African paintings from Uganda were such a success I've placed a new order and the next batch of paintings is already on it's way.  The colors and style of these oil paintings are very different than the styles we have seen out of Tanzania.

Other new additions include a new style of painting done a fiberous bark material and a variety of wax batiks.  These new paintings and the artists are an exciting addition to the site.
